A few hours to the main event in my calendar this year. The software freedom day. This is the second time I am organizing this event in mombasa and its definitely shaping up to be bigger and better than last year’s.

One of the low points of the last event was we had quite a low turn up to the event and that most of those who showed up were from camara and so they already had an idea of what Open source was and what it was all about. Not that this was a bad thing but the major aim of the event was to introduce people to FOSS.

This year I have taken steps to try and avoid a repetition of that mistake, which came about by people not knowing about the event. I have managed to print flyers and posters which we distributed around schools, colleges and the town in an effort to raise awareness of the event.

I also made a foray into online marketing, using facebook (thanks to the camara crew and Ahmed who created the event), twitter, mailing lists, email and this blog as a means of spreading word.

So the comps are packed and ready. What remains is getting to the venue and setting up. For now all I can do is get some sleep and hope everything goes ok tomorrow.
